Bathroom Essentials & Toiletries

Instead, you’ll have a shower (often round) that’s just a couple of feet wide. If you raise your arms to the side of your body, your elbows will likely hit the sides of the shower. This is especially if you are a little bit bigger or if you have to bend over a lot to shave your legs, etc.

All About Cruise Cabin Bathrooms: Features, Size, and Tips

If you do need a small bathtub for young children, I’ll share a useful tip later on. A split bathroom on a cruise ship is where the stateroom essentially has two bathrooms – one that has a shower or bath with a sink, and one that has a toilet and sink. They’re designed to make getting ready easier, so one guest can use the toilet while another is showering.

Again, it's important to emphasize that not all ships have curtains. You don't want to make a useless purchase, even if it is inexpensive. Older ships, such as Vision of the Seas and Norwegian Sky, tend to have curtains, whereas newer vessels like Freedom of the Seas and Norwegian Getaway have glass doors.

These fares typically don't allow you to select your cabin in advance. This will likely result in you being allocated a cabin at the front or back of the ship, but it will save you money. While we can’t keep irons or steamers in our rooms, as hotels do, for safety reasons, we can provide steamers upon special request. An essential that you might not even think about until you realize it’s missing. Our Sailors can adjust the room temperature, so you can cool down after a long day lounging in the heat, or warm up after taking a dip in one of our Redemption Spa’s cold plunge pools. Even if you just opt for a simple vanity pouch, you can more easily corral small bottles and other items so they don’t spread out over the counters.

An over the door organizer is one of the most recommended items to keep organized on a cruise. My suggestion, if you use this, is to hang it on the outside of the washroom door, closet door or even on a cabin wall. The bathroom tissue and toilet paper is just fine – no need to bring from home ;-). That’s because you should always flush it with the lid down, to help with the suction and make sure bacteria isn’t sprayed into the bathroom. Also, it’s really important to make sure sanitary items are disposed of in the bins, not the toilet, or they will clog the system. Cruise ship toilets use a vacuum system to remove your waste from the toilet, rather than forcing water down via a water flush system.

Although standard cruise cabins are smaller than hotel rooms, there are several similarities that will make hotel veterans feel right at home. Like hotels, there are multiple options available depending on your party size – solo rooms, double occupancy, or larger, more luxurious suites called RockStar Quarters. You can also choose between insider, ocean view, and balcony rooms. They typically have a small sink, a stand-up shower, and basic amenities like shampoo and towels.

Will the cruise ship's shower have a handheld sprayer?

Renowned chocolatier Norman Love’s creations are showcased during these workshops, and I am in awe of the intricate designs and flavors he creates. As I explore the ship, I can’t resist the temptation of indulging in the decadent treats and demonstrations of the Chocolate Journeys experience on board. Nestled within the ship, a hidden corridor is filled with an array of freshly baked pastries and delectable treats. This hidden gem is a pastry shop extravaganza, offering a haven for those with a sweet tooth. As the sun sets, the poolside area comes alive with vibrant colors and enchanting music.

Find clever hacks to create more storage space

With a lifelong fascination for exploring new horizons, Alfons discovered his love for the ocean and cruising at a young age. Additionally, I always follow the guidelines for water conservation, being mindful of my water usage. I turn off the faucet while brushing my teeth and limit my shower time to conserve water. Additionally, utilizing wall space by installing shelves or magnetic strips can provide additional storage options. There’s often (but not always) a small clothes line in the cabin shower area. If you have some clothes pins at home, you can pack these for your cruise.

Despite these similarities, there are also plenty of differences between a hotel room and cruise cabin, from the view to the experiences waiting outside your door. Indeed, many even claim to sleep better on cruise ships than in any other type of lodging. These are the key differences between cruise ship rooms and hotel rooms. Cruises take all the best parts of a traditional vacation while injecting some seriously exciting non traditional elements too. Cruise cabins also offer far more value than luxury hotels, since you’re not just getting a room.

Toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, floss and other items can go on one shelf. We usually use one of the glasses provided in the bathroom to hold our toothbrushes. You can still keep a cover on your toothbrushes to keep them clean, but this will keep things organized. Some showers have glass doors, while others have shower curtains. She has worked in the cruise industry since 2015 and has taken over 30 cruises.

As an official sponsor, Costa Cruises is celebrating this remarkable event by introducing the Cruise & Golf program. Carnival Horizon, Southern Caribbean from Miami, October 26, 2024

A Carnival Caribbean cruise takes you to some of the coolest little hotspots… stretching across the world’s designated hotspot. Two special sailings are also planned for the Panama Canal – one each in January 2025 and January 2026 – if conditions permit those transits to move forward. Carnival Pride is scheduled to reposition to Baltimore after finishing her winter season sailing from Tampa, Florida. That one-way cruise will depart Tampa on April 7, 2024 and visit top ports of call in the Caribbean – Jamaica, Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, Antigua, and St. Maarten – on the way to Baltimore. The bridge collapsed on Sunday, March 26, 2024 after the container ship Dali had technical difficulties while approaching the span and subsequently collided with the bridge.

If you’re looking for a thrilling adventure on land, try a zip-lining excursion, such as the extreme zip line adventure in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Ports in the Southern Caribbean are diverse in terms of history, culture and landscape, making the region especially intriguing. The small islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe retain a French feel, while the Dutch culture is strong in St. Maarten and the ABC islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire. In Dominica, Antigua and Grenada, the British influence is still very much evident. The best time to go on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean really depends on your personal schedule and preferences. December through April is the most popular season for snowbirds trying to avoid the winter weather of the north.

Late vs Early Booking: When to Book a Cruise for the Best Price

when is the best time to book a cruise

April is one of the best months to sail to Bermuda as the temperatures are pleasant and in the 70s, and it's one of the driest months of the year, along with May. May and early June are great options for cruises to the archipelago, and you can expect highs in the low 80s by June. The summer offers some of the nicest weather, with daytime highs in Boston and New York between 80 and 90 degrees. Along the coastal areas in Maine and Canada, you'll find highs in the 70s in July. To avoid crowds in port, try not to cruise during the Panamanian festivals that take place in early spring and from November into the winter. These festivals can also affect the opening of attractions, restaurants, banks and other venues you might want to visit ashore.

Then you can buy your juices, specialty coffees, and sodas on board as and when you want to. Tea, coffee, juice, and water are always available in the buffet restaurants on board. Drop us an anchor below to share what time of year you like to vacation. Like many other regions, there isn’t really a “bad” time to visit Hawaii. Certain times of year are preferable than others based on one factor, but another time of year will be more desirable based on another factor.

Best time to cruise the Caribbean and Bahamas to avoid crowds

January is the beginning of the dry season, so the humidity is lower, and the temperatures are in the 70s and 80s. If you're not a fan of crowds, you'll want to pass on traveling when everyone else is going during popular vacation weeks. However, the cruise line's plans can also change between when you book and when you cruise. Be flexible when booking early because circumstances change and the cruise line reserves the right to alter the itinerary or bump you off the ship for a charter.

For example, a 14-night sailing to the Baltic with Holland America is $949 in early May 2023 but $1,329 in mid-June. The cruise season is short if you want to sail to Northern Europe, the Baltic or the Scandinavian fjords; itineraries run from April through October. However, if you love the cold and want to chase the aurora borealis in Norway, several lines offer northern lights itineraries in the winter months. Unless you're incredibly flexible or live near a major cruise port, reduced cabin availability and sky-high airfares limit the appeal of the old-school 'last-minute-deal' of days gone by.

All aboard! What you need to know about cruise boarding times and how early to arrive for a cruise

With a lineup of more than 260 destinations, newly modernized ships and a new, $250 million private island destination, Royal Caribbean is dialing up the adventure like never before. Whether you’ve cruised before or are considering it for the first time, you’ll want to start off your planning with a few basics on timing. If you're after that sweet spot of cheaper fares and perfect weather, the best time to cruise to Mexico is from November through January. Skies during this period are mostly clear, temperatures are warm and crowds are smaller (with the exception of Christmas and New Years). That's true if you're after bright and warm Riviera Maya weather or optimal conditions in the Mexican Riviera on the Pacific Coast as well. If you're considering a summer or early fall Hawaii cruise, note that seas can be rough in August.Wondering if September is a good time to go to Hawaii?

when is the best time to book a cruise

Typically, there is a very fair penalty period and a tiered system of deposits allowing would-be cruisers to pay an amount proportionate to the duration or category of their sailing. For example, a 3-night Bahamas vs the 7-night Mediterranean; or an interior cabin vs a suite. Either way, I recommend purchasing travel insurance (through a third party, not through your cruise line) that will protect your investment if something happens and you miss your ship. However, adding the cost of a pre-cruise hotel stay onto the overall bill isn't always doable for every traveler, especially those on tight budgets. If that's the case and you can find a super-early flight that gets you to your port city with some wiggle room, flying in the same day you sail is possible.

Most days are sunny, but you'll likely encounter an afternoon or evening storm. The summer months of December through February offer some of the best weather for cruising in Australia and New Zealand. Major cities will have high temperatures in the 70s and 80s during that time. April through early June and September to November are typically when you'll find the cheapest prices. Norwegian Cruise Line has a seven-night itinerary sailing round-trip from Boston in April that starts at $779 per person.

What is the best time of year to travel to Europe, Alaska and the Caribbean?

when is the best time to book a cruise

However, don’t be surprised if cruises are sold out by then or have limited availability. For the best options, book as far out as one year to 18 months in advance. If you are trying to book a small cruise ship but limited availability isn’t yielding as many options as you want, search availability on bigger cruise lines, which have thousands of staterooms. The experience will be very different, but it will get you to the Mediterranean in the time period you want. Now that you know the best time to book a cruise, there is one final thing to mention — cruise line sales. You might wondering if they have an impact on the best time to take a trip.

May and September can also be great times to cruise Alaska if you'd like to save a little money. Whale watching is good in both months, as gray and humpback whales migrate to and from the state. Other wildlife will also start to emerge from their winter slumbers in May or be in the middle of mating season in September. Summer is the season to sail Northern Europe on one of these popular cruises. Book 18 months to two years in advance if you want to sail during the peak months of July and August.

Additionally, depending on where you're sailing, July and August may mean some local cafes and restaurants are closed for summer holidays. Peak season for European river cruises lasts from May through September. And if you're after the best of those European summer vibe, it's a hard time of year to top. Cafes are packed, streets bustle with life and days are long and warm.

Springtime will be the quietest time to visit the Aloha State, although you might find an uptick of families traveling for spring break during March and April. The summer is the busiest time for vacationers, and the winter months bring whale-watching enthusiasts and surfers. There are also two major sporting events in January, so you'll want to avoid the crowds on Oahu and Maui during that month. The spring and fall are the optimal times to visit, with fewer tourists, cooler temperatures and lower prices. You'll also find that most everything is open during that time and easier to see without battling the crowds. In the end, the best time to cruise may come down to where you can go for the right price when your schedule allows a vacation.

Prices for similar cruises with MSC between June and August range from $649 to $799. You can usually find the best prices for an Alaska cruise during the shoulder season months of April, May, September and October. For example, starting rates are as low as $603 per person for a seven-night Inside Passage cruise sailing round-trip from Seattle with Royal Caribbean in May 2024.

Again, the best time to take a cruise if you want the cheapest price is when school is in session. If you have to sail during the summer or holidays, expect to pay a premium. If that weren’t enough to convince you to buy as early as possible, you should also consider how waiting until closer to the cruise sail date doesn’t always save money. And even if you book farther out and the price drops, you can often be compensated for the lower price.

Norwegian Sky Cruise Ship: Overview and Things to Do

norwegian cruise sky

Costa didn't pay for the incomplete vessel, so it was laid up until December 1997, when NCL purchased it and re-designed it as "Norwegian Sky" (using the services of Tillberg Design, Sweden). NCL Sky's construction was continued at Lloyd Werft's shipyard in Bremerhaven (another major German shipbuilder) to where the hull was towed on March 8, 1998. The ship was officially acquired by NCL on July 29, 1999. The Inaugural Cruise (Maiden Voyage) was on August 9, 1999 (Norway Fjords from Dover England), also featuring 20th century's last total solar eclipse. Ship's inaugural USA season started from homeport Boston MA to Canada-New England (Sept 18, 1999) and from homeport Miami FL to Caribbean (Nov 14, 1999). If you’d prefer to sweat out your stress versus getting it all massaged away, you can head to the ship’s fitness center, which is filled with all the requisite workout equipment.

Pool Deck aboard Norwegian Sky

When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. We really enjoyed the Great Stirrup Cay, NCLs Private Island. We had to tender to the dock, which took maybe 30 minutes to include waiting on the ship. We were the only ship so there was plenty of seating combing the beach.

How much does it cost to go on Norwegian Sky?

When you want some "me" time, look no further than Mandara Spa®. Relax with a hot-stone massage, one of over 50 specialty treatments offered. At our onboard spas, treatments range from the classic to the luxurious.

Oceanview (OB)

Please note that the view may be fully obstructed, partially obstructed, porthole or picture window. Your stateroom may be on any deck and assigned up to one day prior to embarkation. Structurally, there are some oddities on the ship, including Deck 6A, which houses a handful of cabins but isn't accessible by elevator. But the ship's structure also means it has a gorgeous atrium that spans from Deck 5 all the way to Deck 12. It also has the cool, bright Spinnaker Lounge, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and an adjacent sun deck, covered in teak, that has tremendous views from the bow of the ship. Experience a once-in-a-lifetime moment you will never forget while witnessing the icy-blue glaciers and unique wildlife of Alaska.

Night Caribbean - Other ProductDetails

The balcony staterooms are your best bet for the most comfort and style without upgrading to a suite. The color palette and design scheme is still the same, but you get extra floor space, a seating area, bar area, entertainment space and, of course, a balcony. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors line one wall of your cabin, for uninterrupted views, and a furnished balcony with two seats and a table offers private outdoor living space. Built in 1999, the Norwegian Sky cruise ship weighs 77K tons and has 1002 staterooms for up to 2405 passengers served by 847 crew.

Be sure to bring plenty of sun block, since there is not much sun protection. We nestled up next to the gear rental building to optimize our shade until early afternoon. For alcoholic drinks, they had Patron and Bacardi shacks. They also had a building with grilled meats, BBQ, and a variety of other dishes. At the far back end of the cove they had an underwater Sculpture Garden, where there was a “Gorilla King” and other figures for the fish to swim around. Find The Cruise Of Your Dreams Proudly Australian Owned

cruise australia

Along the southern edge of Australia, a number of cruise ships now visit Kangaroo Island, considered one of the most biodiverse environments in the country. Visit huge seal colonies, spot koalas in the trees and cruise alongside curious dolphins. The Kimberley region in Western Australia is one of the world’s last true wilderness areas and expedition ships cruising here will visit rugged coastline and isolated archipelagos. Coastal cruises visit the other major port cities and open up opportunities to venture inland to wineries, national parks, tourist attractions and shopping precincts. Pretty much all of the major cruise lines worldwide run Australia/New Zealand cruises, including popular lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity and luxury line Seabourn.

Most itineraries covering Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef are seven-, eight-, or ten-night round-trip affairs from either Brisbane or Sydney. What’s more, with some of the best cruise ships Australia has ever seen calling Brisbane their home, it’s safe to say this destination will undoubtedly be on the top of many bucket lists. You won’t be short of chances to explore the history and culture of Australia while on any cruise. Consider a cruise in the southeast or southwest corners of Australia or Tasmania, which are dense with colonial-era towns and convict settlements. Australia’s only river cruises along the Murray River in South Australia explore the story of early European exploration and settlement. The shopping aboard Aussie cruise ships is excellent, whereas airports and city stores are not the best places to find deals.

ISLAND HOP

Described by its larger sibling cities as "a big country town," this city of arts certainly has a more relaxed semirural atmosphere. The port often plays host to vessels transiting between the east and west coasts. Remote Outer Harbour requires a train, bus or taxi to deliver visitors to the city center, where expansive parks, gardens, museums and art galleries await exploration. Outside the city, daytrips are easily made to the famous wine districts of the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Australia is regularly voted one of the world's top cruise destinations. You can also explore Brunswick Street, Melbourne’s Bohemian Soho strip where people of all strips go to eat, drink, dance, and shop.

Excursions — Your Gateway to Australia's Best Attractions

A sampler cruise from Sydney is a great way to experience both Australia's biggest city and an exciting cruise. Snorkel, dive and swim along the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef — you can even charter a glass-bottomed boat to stay dry while seeing the only living organism visible from outer space. The reef is accessible from places like Cairns, Airlie Beach, Townsville and Port Douglas in Queensland. Witness the majestic beauty of New Zealand on Fiordland National Park cruise excursions.

You will need a valid passport to visit Australia and New Zealand. It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. On Celebrity’s ships, you can enjoy a different restaurant for every meal, with menus designed by a Michelin-starred chef. Don’t miss Dinner on the Edge® on Celebrity Edge, with dining under the stars on The Magic Carpet, high above the ocean, with uninterrupted views.

Australia & New Zealand Luxury Cruises

The Australian Open is held in Melbourne annually and some cruise lines offer voyages that include tickets to the tennis matches. Day-trips visit the wineries of the Yarra Valley, just 90 minutes from the city. “Bottom End” Australia cruises are also available with itineraries that cover ports between Perth, Sydney and New Zealand while sailings on the south coast. Those sailings—usually clocking in at 29 or 30 days—sell out fast so make sure you stay in touch with Cruise Guru if you want to book one. Themed cruises are very popular in Australia, so you will be able to find something fun and quirky to suit your interests. There are cruises themed around country music, Elvis Presley, popular eras like the 80s and 90s, disco, comedy and sporting events like the Melbourne Cup.

And on board, delight in local food and entertainment as our Across the Ditch immersive program brings the very best of New Zealand to you. Stretching out over two million square miles (5 million square kilometres), some of Australia’s magnificent sights require more time to explore. Pair your cruise with a land tour to the outback that lets you immerse yourself in local indigenous culture and visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the spectacular Great Barrier Reef and the mystical and iconic Uluru (Ayers Rock). Epic landscapes, ancient cultures and laid-back charm – experience it all on board an Australia & New Zealand / Aotearoa cruise with Princess the #1 cruise line in Australia. And on board, delight in local food and entertainment as our Across the Ditch immersive program brings the very best of New Zealand to you. We have discounted cruises on all the major cruise lines including P&O, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Holland America Line.

Dubbed the "gateway to North Queensland," Cairns is a key hub for visitors wishing to explore the Great Barrier Reef and the region's ancient Daintree Rainforest, including Kuranda. The city itself is like a big, easygoing, oversized tropical village with a reputation as a backpacker haven. Yet, over the years, it has evolved into a sophisticated city with attractions beyond its natural resources.

If you're longing for an immersive experience on the famous Great Barrier Reef, the larger cruise lines are not fully set up to deliver this in a way to do it justice. Day-cruises out of Cairns or Townsville are better options, or book yourself onto one of Australia's small-ship operators like Coral Princess Cruises, which offers comfortable live-aboard itineraries for snorkelers and divers. This is another major gateway city, largely to the Top End's spectacular national wildlife parks.

Onboard many of the larger ships sailing here you’ll find family-friendly fun in the form of swimming pools, waterslides, waterparks, sports courts and outdoor games. Most ships have kids’ clubs with separate groups for each age group, ranging from toddlers to teens. They will also host movie nights, interactive game shows and Broadway-style musicals. Most of the ports around Australia will also offer shore excursions suitable for the whole family, from cycling and bushwalks to snorkelling, animal encounters and outdoor adventures.

California Coast Getaways 3-day Cruise from Los Angeles and Beyond

3 days cruise from long beach

Since we booked a suite (as that was the only availability as we were waitlisted), we were able to sit in a really nice waiting area with nice cushy chairs until it was time for us to embark. I think it was a quarter til 11AM when we were called to line up on Zone 1 to walk on the ramp to get on our cruise ship from the terminal. We had missed the opportunity to check in our suitcases, so we had to roll three suitcases up the ramp. It was not as bad as we thought it would be because the ramp was very smooth. Before we could proceed to explore the ship, we went to the mandatory safety briefing as a family and got the kids' their mandatory green wristbands that kids under a certain age had to wear. We like to eat at their formal dining room for dinners as cruise ships' traditional service is typically wonderful.

Art galleries, gardens or tours of the county’s wineries, all await in San Diego on a West Coast getaway cruise. We’ve visited Ensenada and the wine country many times, so we enjoyed visiting a local museum, lunch at Muelle 3 and strolling through town. The main pool area is one of the most popular spots on the cruise during the day. There are lots of spots in both sun and shade to relax and enjoy the views of the Pacific ocean.

Cruise to Mexico on the Carnival Radiance

After the rest of my family woke up, during the day, we played mini-golf first and then took our kids to the arcade to play some games. The mini-golf is tucked on the top floor of one side of the cruise so it took a bit of effort to find, but the search was worth it. It's complimentary to play mini-golf and the views from up top were very cool. The arcade was on the 5th floor so we trekked our way down to find it next to all the shops.

Both ships depart out of Long Beach and arrive at the Ensenada port the next day, where passengers can tour the city or participate in a guided shore excursion. Both ships arrive back in Long Beach on the fourth day of the voyage. Carnival Radiance is set to provide nearly 50 new getaways to the coastal haven of Ensenada, Mexico, from spring to fall in 2025. This vessel offers alternating three- and four-night cruises, catering to travellers seeking flexibility. Three-day weekend cruises, departing on Fridays, offer a quick escape to Ensenada, while the four-day cruises add an additional stopover in the picturesque Catalina Island, adding a dash of variety to your voyage.

Evening Shows & Entertainment

From riding cable cars to sampling fresh bay shrimp, experience it all in The Golden City. On short cruises from San Francisco, visit Alcatraz and walk in the footsteps of famous prisoners from the past. Spend the day shopping at Pier 39, and enjoy lunch at one of the waterside restaurants.

Aft-View Extended Balcony staterooms feature a larger balcony for more lounge-around room, more kick-back space; not to even mention some of the best stern-side views you'll find anywhere. Get ready to relax as you gaze upon Carnival Radiance's gentle wake from your spacious balcony. Cruise to Baja Mexico for some south-of-the-border flavor with a coastal twist.

The six-day itineraries will transport passengers to the enchanting locales of Ensenada and the mesmerizing Cabo San Lucas, offering two full days to explore this Mexican gem. Meanwhile, the eight-day cruises promise an immersive experience, with stops in Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta. Your Scenic Ocean View stateroom aboard Carnival Radiance provides the best view of the sea that lies ahead of the ship, with views unlike any on land. And you'll get more of them, too, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing plenty of looking-glass for gazing at the natural wonders of the sea... Then, it was time for the kids' evening kids' club activities that started at 7PM that night, so we went to the 12th floor to find Camp Ocean and checked both of our kids in. It's a closed club so only the kids are allowed to enter and leave their door.

There are more than 20 shore excursions you can book when you buy your cruise or while you are on the cruise ship. Excursion options range from nearby wine country tours of Valle de Guadalupe (Guadalupe Valley), to surfing, kayaking, food tours and lots more. Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. With a Cruise Plus Hotel Package, a Princess representative meets you at the airport and pier, transporting you to and from your hotel.

Prior to working at 52 Perfect Days she was a freelance travel writer; focusing on family and women’s adventure experiences. For a luxury hotel that won’t break the bank, I recommend the Westin Long Beach, which is currently the #1 hotel on Tripadvisor. Carnival has a waterpark called WaterWorks and it includes a twister waterslide, a double straight slide, two mini slides and a spray park.

Between the teen club for my son and all the fun things to do onboard, there just wasn’t enough time to experience it all plus enjoy some downtime. If you have an extra day to sail, the four-day cruise from Long Beach to Ensenada is roughly the same price as the three-day itinerary, as of publication date. The four-day cruise, which is offered on both ships, makes an extra port stop on California's Catalina Island. A Carnival shore excursion is priced at a premium because the cruise line arranges the activity; budget travelers should compare prices for Ensenada tour packages before signing up for a prepaid Carnival excursion. Three-day cruises aboard the Carnival Inspiration and Carnival Imagination are available year-round out of Long Beach.

My husband, son, and I sailed with Carnival for this 3 Day Baja Mexico cruise from Long Beach. It is a great long weekend vacation, especially for anyone within easy driving distance of Long Beach, California. Leah Waldron is the head of Traveler Services at First Abroad, a gap year travel company based in Boston and London. Departing out of Long Beach, California, Carnival Imagination and Carnival Inspiration, two ships in the Carnival Cruise Lines fleet, sail on three-day voyages to Ensenada, Mexico.
